Emily Roux

Caractère

Emily Roux is the daughter of Michel and Giselle Roux, and was born and raised in London into the most gastronomic of families.

Being the Daughter of a famed chef and TV personality, and the granddaughter of Albert Roux, co-founder of the triple-Michelin-starred The Waterside Inn in Bray, Emily was lucky to get an early schooling at the world’s finest restaurants.

It’s therefore easy to see why it didn’t take long for her to fall in love with the culinary world!

Born in 1991, Emily knew she wanted to follow in her family’s footsteps from a young age. She grew up in the kitchens of her father’s two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche, where she would often sit in the corner, volunteering to peel potatoes or carrots for hours simply enjoying the camaraderie of the kitchen.

Emily began her training as a chef in 2010 at the Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, before moving to Paris to work at the Michelin-starred restaurant Akrame. Emily launched her career in Paris, before going on to train at Alain Ducasse’s restaurant, La Trattoria, in Monaco, and then in Paris at Le Louis XV. She continued adding to her repertoire as she moved on to more Michelin-starred restaurants, Le 39V and Akrame and then back in the UK, where she worked with both her father and grandfather.

Emily may be the youngest member of the Roux dynasty, but she has been keen to forge her own path in the culinary world, and is dedicated to establishing her identity in her own kitchen.

In 2017 Emily and her mother Giselle, whom Emily describes as a great home cook, published their cookbook, New French Table, with Mitchell Beazle.

Fast forward through a couple of years of planning and we arrive in 2019 when Emily opened her own restaurant, Caractère, which she jointly owns with fellow chef and husband, Diego Ferrari. Together they have created a casual, contemporary and independent restaurant situated in Notting Hill, where they combine both French and Italian cuisine to bring you delicious food with a friendly and warm atmosphere.
