Marcus Wareing

Marcus

Marcus Wareing is an English celebrity chef, born in Southport in 1970. He is currently Chef Patron at his flagship restaurant ‘Marcus’ at the Berkeley Hotel.

Although he is probably most well known for his appearances on Masterchef The Professionals, where he has been a judge and mentor since he joined the series in 2014, Marcus has held a long standing career in the food industry.

His first job was working alongside his father, a fruit and vegetable merchant supplying schools with his produce, where at the age of 11 Marcus would help pack produce and accompany deliveries.
Marcus attended Stanley High School where he found he had a natural talent for cooking and went on to attend Southport College, where he began his career aged 18 with a three-year City & Guilds course in catering.

Marcus is only one of a handful of chefs who has been recognised at a young age for their culinary talents, having received his first Michelin star at just 26. Since then he has won awards including Restaurateur of the Year, GQ Chef of the Year, the Chef award at the Cateys and an Acorn Award.

Marcus has been involved in the creation of some of London’s most celebrated restaurants, including his one-Michelin-starred restaurant ‘Marcus’ in Knightsbridge. Formerly known as ‘Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley’, the restaurant was founded in 2008 with his wife Jane Wareing, and is where he prides himself on ‘contemporary British food to evoke and create memories’. As a restaurateur he also runs The Gilbert Scott at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which opened in 2011.

In October 2019 Marcus, who lives in London with his wife Jane and three children, published his eighth cookbook ‘Marcus Everyday’ with Harper Collins.
