PRODUCER NOTE
20 years after the end of Apartheid, South Africa is finally making the wines it always promised it would. Hazy View wines are specially selected, blended and bottled to typify the classic South African grape varieties.
VINTAGE
The 2019 vintage was characterised by extreme drought, which brought about very little disease pressure in the vineyard, thus ensuring very healthy grapes and low yields. This contributed to complex and concentrated flavour profiles in the 2019 wines.
VINEYARD
Sourced from vineyards in the Western Cape and produced at our winery in Paarl. The vineyards are situated in the mountainous and biologically diverse area in the South Western corner of Africa. The overall climate here is typically Mediterranean, but the mountainous landscape creates mesoclimates that are ideal for creating quality wines. The oceanic breezes from the Atlantic and the warmer currents of the Indian Ocean meet around the Cape of South Africa, influencing and refreshing the Western Cape vineyards.
WINEMAKING
The grapes were not crushed but were left in contact with skins and macerated for six hours, at a controlled temperature of approximately 6°C. Following this, crushing took place and fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at 16°C until dry. Malolactic fermentation did not take place, resulting in a crisp style of wine.
TASTING NOTE
Fresh and aromatic, this easy-drinking Chenin Blanc shows gentle aromas of tangy green apples and is beautifully balanced with a crisp acidity and a deliciously fruity finish.
GRAPE
Chenin Blanc 100%.
